Journalism links
These are links to select web pages recently bookmarked by members of my delicious.com network — and some opportunities inspired by those pages:
- Online Ethics: The Beginning Of the End of the Ad Hoc Era? [Poynter Online] (from billgaffney) – At a recent conference, small groups tackled online publishers’ ethical challenges. “The ethics of linking” sparked ”more debate than resolution” across four of the five main areas they discussed. Opportunity: Establish a set of guidelines around the ethics of linking.
- Your New Neighborhood Newspaper? Soon, a Real Estate Site [Rick Burne's Blog] (from yeltsinfina) - Rick Burnes looks at a web site for a Cleveland development that includes updates about the neighborhood. By covering other communities, he thinks it could “become a veritable hyperlocal blog.” Opportunity: Find similar budding blogs and provide them with a platform and brand.
- Leaderboard: Public service edition [Beatblogging.org] (from yeltsinfina) - Jon Ortiz of The Sacramento Bee wins the weekl award again. This time for the Blog Back posts, in his State Worker blog, in which Ortiz reviews and comments. Opportunity: If you hava a blog that gets more than 10 comments a day, do this to strengthen and build your community.
- Where to find the best in Flash journalism [10,000 Words] (from cophotog) – “To see Flash done right,” take a look at another great compilation by Mark S. Luckie. Opportunity: Seek out more examples to learn to use Flash appropriately.
- About this site – News Mixer (from cophotog) - Site for Eastern Iowa news uses Facebook Connect to let community comment in three formats. Opportunity: Don’t replicate, but explore other ways to use Facebook Connect.
- New Tableizer! Tool Turns Spreadsheets into HTML Charts [Journalistopia] (from richardk) – I had to include this great tool, even without a clear tie to “linking,” because I find it so useful. It’s also provides personal example of a missed … Opportunity: Share useful tools with other journalists immediately. Don’t worry about perfecting the tool, as I’ve been trying to do with my TableMaker tool that I still haven’t “released” to the public!
